OPPA Degrees

An OPPA Degree is a way to show that you are dedicated to your photography and have demonstrated proficiency and service in our industry. Earning a degree shows to both your peers and your clients that you have persevered in your photographic growth and earned the recognition that goes along with it.  If you've seen folks at OPPA events wearing ribbons and medals around their necks: those are the symbols of our degrees.

OPPA Degrees are based on earning OPPA Points.   There are three general categories of points: Exhibition (Competition), Service, and Speaking.

  • Exhibition points are earned by your images scoring 80 or above at an OPPA Competition, or by receiving trophies related to image competition.
  • Service points are earned through volunteer service to OPPA, participation in education and mentoring opportunities, service in liaison with PPA groups, or through receiving service-related association awards.
  • Speaking points are earned by serving as an educational instructor or as an image competition judge.
For the full list of all the ways to earn OPPA points, see the Points Chart.
