Demystifying Image Competition

With Lisa Dillon, CPP, M.Photog., DF-OR

Does Image Competition or Merit Image Review mystify you? Do you really understand how it all works? What *is* the difference between Competition and Merit Image Review anyway? And what happened to IPC? These are just a few of the questions I’ll be answering in my program. I’ll explain how the programs work and why you should care about them in the first place. I’ll also teach you how images are judged so you’ll be able to participate with confidence. I’ll teach you a new way to look at the framework PPA uses to evaluate images. I’ll teach you how to look at your images with a judge’s eye so you can select the best images for competition and image review and get you on your way to your degree and competition success!

About the Speaker:

Lisa Dillon

CPP, M.Photog., DF-OR

Lisa Dillon is a Master Craftsman Photographer and CPP from Portland Oregon. She is a Diamond Fellow of Photography in Oregon. She is in her 22st year of business and specializes in high school senior, executive headshots and family photography. She is a 3-time president of Oregon Professional Photographers of Oregon and past president of the Professional Photographers of Oregon as well as an approved PPA juror. In addition to judging, Lisa teaches classes on image competition and business. She also mentors young photographers. She is a mother and a grandmother and loves to travel the world. A long time competitor, Lisa uses Image Competition as a way to explore new ideas and build on personal projects.

2026 OPPA Image Invitational

2nd Installment - Sept 2nd, 2026

Open to All

The 2nd Installment of the 2026 OPPA Image Invitational is now open for registration. Image entry registration will open now via PrintCompetition.com. The entry deadline is Sept 2nd, 2026 at 4:00 AM PST, and all images must be uploaded prior to this time.

This event is open to everyone. Members of OPPA are eligible to earn competition points towards the OPPA degree program and be eligible awards. Participants may enter up to six mages, which will be evaluated based on the 12 Elements of a Merit Image.

Judging will take place on Sept 2nd, 2026 at 4:00 PM PST by an outstanding panel of judges including:

Kimberly Olker
Thea Martin

Even if you do not enter images, this is a valuable educational opportunity. Attendance is free, and you are welcome to observe the judging process, learn from feedback, and connect with incredible photographers.

Social! Fun! Photos! Food! Drinks! Free!

It's time for resurrect our "Suds and Shots" get-togethers! It's a wonderful way to build community and connection with fellow photographers.

This is a casual event. Bring up to five photos in either a print, on an iPad/tablet or even a phone! We'll share photos and discuss photography, while we enjoy delicious food and cold frosty beverages. You're welcome to bring a friend!

Her studio specializes in wall art for the home and custom designed albums for families, newborns, pets, and seniors in high school. She also enjoys helping area businessmen and women represent themselves with excellence through professional headshots and business branding photographs. She lives in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin with her husband of 26 years and their four boys. In her free time she enjoys traveling, gardening, boating, and downhill skiing.
