    OPPA Summer Social
    at Juarez Canyon

Come hang out with your fellow photographers, under the shade of tall western red cedars and relax by the creek or gather around the fire pit for food, music, fun and games!  This family friendly event will be potluck style, with OPPA providing hamburgers, hotdogs veggie burgers hot off the grill--with all the fixin's.  Dress western, if you dare!  There will be lots of games for the kids, such as a bean bag toss and time for us all to get to know each other better.  Please bring a potluck dish to share, and post on the OPPA  FB page what you are bringing, so we have a good variety of food.  Set on private property, this authentic themed Wild West village is just 10 minutes from I-205, in Carver, Oregon.

We have models coming again this year, to shoot feom 4:15 to 6pm.  The lovely and talented Kimberly and rugged and handsome  Jason, will be modeling for us.

    Children's' Character
    Portraiture in B&W

    by Pete Rezac

We will go into how I consult with my clients prior to our Children's Character Portrait Session. What I’m after and the “Authenticity” that we need in order to make these type of pictures to really shine. The clothing, the dirt, the expression, and the props.

We’ll then go into how we produce the portraits including how I light them, what I’ve found to be good working exposures, the poses that work well, and how many shots I try to make. These portraits are also about efficiency.

Finally, we’ll go into the post production that I do to finish these images along with sizes I offer to clients. These are commissioned portraits rather than volume sessions.

Questions - Its my goal to leave you prepared to start producing these as soon as you are ready. The great thing about in person education is being able to ask questions. So please don’t be afraid to ask - it’s the best way we can all learn!

Instructor Bio: Pete Rezac, M.Photog.Cr., CPP - Pete is a portrait photographer located in Reno, Nevada. His primary business is Family and Children’s photography, with a specialization in Black & White portraiture. He has been in business since 2003 and making the move to full time work in 2010. He earned his Master of Photography from PPA in 2015, his Photographic Craftsman in 2014, and his Certified Professional Photographer in 2010. He had a top 10 Grand Imaging Children’s Portrait in the 2015 International Photographic Competition as well as being a Platinum Medalist in 2016 and 2015 International Photographic Competition. He was also named a Top 10 photographer for state of California and 2015 California Child Portrait Photographer of the Year. He was a 2014 Gold Medalist in the International Photographic Competition. He also earned a Kodak Gallery Award for Western States District in 2012. He’s an active supporter of PPA Charities and was the top donor for 2016 and 2015 Celebration of Smiles Day benefiting Operation Smile as well as earning several print awards from PPA Charities including 2016 Image Impact award and over all best image from 2015 Celebration of Smiles Day. It is time to change your view of your business. It does not matter how long you have been in business - this workshop will truly help you look at your business with new eyes. Are you tired of working with clients that keep asking for more, but are not really willing to pay more? Do you REALLY want to earn what you are WORTH?

Join me and your fellow photographers and learn about the Business of Photography. There really is a formula and if you are willing to follow it you will be more profitable and your business will be more rewarding.

    About Julia Fitzgerald:

I moved to Oregon in September 1992 with my husband Mark and our family of dogs and cats. I usually have a dog or two sleeping near by while I work and occasionally a cat in my lap. We live in SW Portland where we enjoy working out of our respective home offices. I worked for small CPA practices for 20 years, then owned my own CPA practice for 11 years before opening up the boutique bookkeeping & consulting business in 2013 that serves small business owners.

Over the years I have seen hundreds of books and worked with hundreds of business owners. I found that most business owners want to have a streamlined workflow for their bookkeeping and management.

My husband, Mark is a photographer and teacher and so I have been around photography for over 30 years. I am involved in our state photography association, Oregon Professional Photography Association, Inc., OPPA.  I am also a member of the national association, Professional Photographers of America, PPA and earned my Photographic Craftsman Degree in 2017.

I teach workshops for both OPPA and PPA on topics such as QuickBooks Online, Profitable sustainable business management & How to attract Perfect Customers.

There will be a mid-day lunch break; lunch is on your own.

    Focus Stacking For Sharper Images

Increase the depth of field of your images by using a technique called focus stacking. Initially developed to overcome shallow depth of field in macro photography, focus stacking can also be applied to landscapes to give images greater three-dimensional depth and clarity while avoiding lens diffraction caused by smaller f-stops. Participants will learn about:

    • focus stacking examples
    • ensuring sharp focus
    • focus stacking techniques
    • focus stacking equipment and software
    • compositing images
    • and more

Participants should bring a tripod, a DSLR with medium-range lens (24-70), remote cable release (or use your camera’s timer) and be familiar with manual exposure mode, LiveView and manual focus. A laptop running Photoshop and Helicon Focus (a free 30-day demo can be downloaded here) is also needed.

Lastly, bring an potted orchid (available at Freddy’s) or vase with a bouquet of flowers for photographing. At the completion of the workshop participants will have created their own composited images with enhanced depth of field.

    About Lew Tarnopol:

Lew's entry into professional photography began several years ago when a videographer friend suggested they pair up to photograph and videotape children’s dance recitals. He's since expanded into family portraiture and head shots, while his fine art images have been hung and sold in various local shows. Additionally, using a color-managed workflow, his services include providing acrylic artists with digital captures of their canvases so they can print and sell accurate photographic reproductions.

Lew is a member of OPPA (Oregon Professional Photographers Association) where he served two years on the board as Treasurer. As an active participant in image competitions, several of his fine-art images have earned recognition from OPPA, PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and Pro Photo Supply.

This workshop is PPA-accredited; PPA attendees who attend the entire session will receive one PPA merit.
